Boys to Men
Boys 2 Men is a mentorship program for young men to help them realize the meaning of real manhood, through experiential group and individual mentoring. This is done through group and one on one mentorship.
In group mentorship, the Boys are taken through a revolutionary 10-week program whose contents and activities are carefully designed to give them a holistic experience. So far over 5,300 boys have gone through the program.
The Boys are placed in groups of 5-7 boys a space where the men share and learn from each other based on the lesson of the week in the manual
The group is led by two trained mentors who have interacted with the Boys2Men manual. The content and activities are keenly tailored to be relevant to the boys and seek to renew the worldview and value system and inspire them to positive action
The meetings are done in respective schools led by the Lead Mentor who is the overall in charge of the program in school working closely with school administration.
Some of the high schools and churches that have gone through the program are: Starehe Boys High School, Alliance Boys High school, Kericho boys High School, Parklands Baptist Church, ICC-Mombasa among others.
In the One on One mentorship, the mentor walks with the boy in three areas: Character, Competence and Chemistry
The parent/guardian writes to us a brief on the boy (mentee), any challenges and needs that he has, and what you would like to see change or grow in him through mentoring. We desire details on his personality, background, family context and any other information that would enable us to know him better and understand his realities. With this information, we select from among our well trained and experienced mentors, the most suitable mentor for him.
Once we have selected that suitable mentor for him, we have you (parent/guardian) and the young man meet the mentor, get to know each other, sign some documents and agree on places and dates for successive meetings.
Mentoring starts. You drop your son at the agreed places to meet the mentor and pick him up afterwards. We usually start with 3 mentoring sessions, and then debrief with you as the parent before we proceed with 4 more. After the 7 sessions, the program coordinator meets you to review progress and agree on the way forward.
Each session is held either outdoors or in a restaurant, choosing the best environment for connection and conversation. Each session costs 2,500/-, which caters for transport, snack and the session.
Note: Though our mentors have basic counseling training and skills, in cases where we feel the young man needs more specialized counseling we do not hesitate to refer them.
